About The Breed

The Mallorquín Horse (Caballo Mallorquín) is a rare and elegant breed originating from the island of Majorca, off the southeast coast of Spain. Renowned for its distinctive black coat and calm, friendly demeanor, the Mallorquín has been a part of the island’s history for centuries. Isolated on the island, the breed stayed true to its original type, earning its place as an integral part of Majorca’s cultural heritage.

In 1989, an official studbook was created to safeguard the breed’s future. While historically used for work and local traditions, these versatile horses are now seen excelling in a variety of disciplines, including English and Western riding, driving, and even side saddle. Critically endangered, with fewer than 330 individuals, the Mallorquín Horse stands as a testament to resilience, thanks to passionate breeders and enthusiasts working tirelessly to preserve them.
