About The Breed

The Frederiksborg is Denmark's oldest horse breed, with roots tracing back to the Danish kings of the 1500s. This royal breed gained immense popularity across Europe, often given as luxurious gifts among royalty, making it a rare and highly sought-after horse. Originally bred for versatility, Frederiksborg horses excelled in various roles, including parades and pulling royal carriages. However, after World War II, the breed faced a drastic decline in numbers and is now classified as endangered. All pure colors are accepted within the breed, with chestnut being the most common. Buckskin is referred to as "Yellow," while the palomino color is called "Isabella." Mares typically stand between 15.3 and 16.1 hands, while stallions are ideally between 16.0 and 16.3 hands.
