About The Breed

The Jutland Horse ( Den Jyske Hest ) is Denmark's national draft horse, valued for its strength, reliability, and calm temperament. This breed originated as an agricultural workhorse. The first studbook was established in 1881. Key stallions, such as Oppenheim (1862) and Aldrup Menkedal (1893), played a significant role in shaping the modern Jutland.

Jutlands are typically chestnut with a light mane and tail, though brown and black also occur. They average between 15.2 and 16.1 hands high and are known for their solid build and dependable nature. With approximately 800 Jutland Horses remaining, the breed is considered rare, and efforts are focused on preserving its heritage.
