About The Breed

The Smoky Valley Horse is a recreation of America's historic smooth-gaited traveling horse, capable of maintaining a comfortable gait over long distances. This breed was developed by Dr. Bob Coleman, inspired by his quest to find the ideal riding horse from his childhood. The Smoky Valley Horse combines traits of gaited horses with an emphasis on smoothness and efficiency, reminiscent of the high-quality traveling horses of the past. Typically ranging from 14 to 16.2 hands and weighing between 1,000 and 1,200 pounds, Smoky Valley Horses come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. They excel as all-around gaited horses, making them great companions for pleasure riding and various equestrian activities.
