About The Breed

The Terceira Pony, originating from Portugal’s Azores Islands, is a rare and historically significant breed, cherished for its resilience, calm nature, and versatility. Brought by Portuguese settlers in the 15th century, these ponies were essential for farm work, transport, and riding. They are known for their endurance, courage, and gentle temperament, making them ideal for children’s riding lessons and therapy. Today, fewer than 100 Terceira Ponies exist, with ongoing efforts to preserve this unique breed’s legacy and role in Azorean culture.
