About The Breed

The American Sugarbush Harlequin Draft Horse is a unique draft breed developed in the United States with roots tracing back to 1998. It began when Everett Smith, owner of the Sugar Bush Hitch Company, bred his Percheron mare to Stonewall Rascal, a spotted stallion from the Stonewall Sport Horse lineage. The first foal, a loud-colored leopard colt, marked the beginning of this distinctive breed. Known for their eye-catching spotted patterns and occasional solid colors, these horses typically stand between 15.2 and 17 hands high. They are celebrated for their versatility, making appearances at events like horse expos and BreyerFest, and embodying the motto "a horse that is only limited by your imagination."
