About The Breed

The Moriesian is a hybrid horse breed that combines the finest qualities of the Morgan and Friesian horse breeds. Known for their elegance, athleticism, and versatility, Moriesians are celebrated for excelling in both sport and pleasure riding. The breed's registry was established in 1996, creating a framework for consistent breeding standards. Moriesians generally stand between 15.1 and 16.1 hands, with black being the most common color. However, all colors are accepted in the registry. The breed allows for three registration types:

  • First Generation: Purebred Friesian crossed with a purebred Morgan.
  • Second Generation: Both parents are Moriesians.
  • Three-Quarter Moriesian: The foal is up to 75% Friesian or Morgan, depending on the cross.
