About The Breed

Known for their strength, speed, and good nature, the American Quarter Horse is one of the most popular breeds in the world. The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) was founded in 1940 and has since registered almost 6 million horses worldwide. Quarter Horses typically stand between 14.0 and 16.0 hands tall and come in a variety of colors: chestnut, sorrel, black, brown, gray, bay, palomino, buckskin, cremello, perlino, white, dun, red dun, grullo, red roan, bay roan, and blue roan.

Quarter Horses are celebrated for their exceptional versatility, excelling in various disciplines such as:

  • Ranching and Rodeo: Favorites for cattle work, roping, barrel racing, and other rodeo events.
  • Western Riding: They shine in cutting, reining, and pleasure riding.
  • English Riding: Compete successfully in disciplines such as jumping and dressage.

The name "Quarter Horse" comes from the breed's exceptional ability to sprint short distances, particularly a quarter of a mile.
